Alexander was educated as a chorister at Canterbury Cathedral and held organ scholarships at Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln College, Oxford. He studied conducting as a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music, graduating with distinction and as a winner of the College's conducting prize for two consecutive years. Alexander has much experience working with amateur choruses and orchestras to the highest standards, as a former conductor of the Oxford University Press Choir, North Herts Guild of Singers and of Guy's King's and St Thomas' Hospitals Music Society. As Musical Director of Vision Opera he conducted a rare production of Scott Joplin's Treemonisha at Sadlers Wells in 2007. In 2008 Alexander was prizewinner in a competitive masterclass with the St Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic. He has a great deal of expertise in choral administration, currently directing Wokingham Choral Society and East London Chorus and . He is a lecturer at Morley College, London and is in much demand as a pianist and organist, both home and abroad.
